Furcifer pardalis's feeding must be full and varied like all others animals. Unfortunately, many holders of this chameleon give only crickets to eat, by lack of knowledge. Consequently, some problems may appear. So, it's essential to offer 4 or 5 different insects by week.
Chameleons panther's basic food is composed of crickets, grasshoppers, silkworms and cockroaches. Others insects like « teignes de ruches », « vers de farine », « vers de tébos », « drosophiles », flys and « larves de morios » may also joined to food, but occasionaly.
It's primordial to be careful with Furcifer pardalis's food intake; too much food dealt may become baneful. Effectively, in country, food is rare, it's why sexual maturity take place later.
Those informations are chameleons panther's quantities food :
- Newborns: little insects sprinkled of vitamins before distribution (crickets, « drosophiles » and occasionally little « vers de farine »)
- Yougers and sub-adults: 5 to 6 insects by day (crickets, flys), 1 to 3 grasshoppers
with adapted size by week, as 1 to 3 others preys (teignes de ruches,
cockroaches, vers de farine et larves de morios, etc..) It's necassary to observe a
fast day one time by week .
- Adults: between 12 and 15 insects by week with 1 to 2 fast days of fast, best being a mixture of 6 to 7 crickets, 3 to 4 grasshoppers and 3 to 4 athers insects by week.
Some stockbreeders sprinkle the insects of vitamins and inorganic intakes several times by week before dealing. Personaly, I prefer offer full and varied feeding to preys with viatmins and inorganic to get a better absorption.
The crikets
Also, males sing , so there is a lot of noise. Crickets belong to chameleons's fooding. This type of breeding is easy and the cycle usually vary between 2 months and a half and 3 month according to species. Unfortunately, this breeding need a lot of work : regular cleaning to smells.
